British Stuntmen is someone who performs deadly stunts, frequently as a career.
These stunts are infrequently rigged in order that they look deadly while still having safety mechanisms, but often they are as deadly as they appear to be. There is an inherent risk in the performance of all stunt work in film, TV and stage work. Adventurer performers are distinct from stunt performers and stunt doubles, as they perform their stunts only for the sake of the stunt itself, frequently before an audience for their entertainment and private monetary gain for the event, while a stunt performer, or stunt double typically performs stunts intended for use in a motion photos or dramatized television ( though one person could certainly be both, as was the case with Harry Houdini, Jackie Chan, Tony Jaaand others ). Stunt performers and stunt doubles are generally talented at performing physical action in character for film and television.
A stunt double is a kind of body double, specifically a talented replacement used for dangerous film or video sequences, inmovies and television ( like jumping out of a building, jumping from vehicle to auto, or other similar actions ), and for other classy stunts ( especially fight scenes ). Stunt doubles may be used in cases where an actor’s physical condition precludes a great quantity of exercise, or when an actor is contractually restricted from performing stunts. Stunt doubles are often called’stunties.’
The terms stunt double and body double might be used interchangeably for cases where special talents are required, such as dancing, playing the piano, or competitive skiing. Stunt doubles should be distinguished fromstunt performers, who perform stunts for the sake of the stunt alone, frequently as a career.
Many stunt doubles have happy and long production careers as a part of a star actor’s contractual’support crew’ along with the star’s cooks, trainers, dressers, helpers. Stunt doubles for Eddie Murphy, John Wayne, Harrison Ford, Steve Martin and Michael Landon have been related to their lead actors for decades.
‘Stunt double’ is not the exclusive province of humans ; many dog actors are used as doubles, for instance Enzo was the stunt double for his aging sire Moose on the comedy Frasier.Soccer, the dog who portrayed Wishbone, reportedly hated swimming and so had stunt doubles.
Circus Acrobatics
A show of spectacular virtuosic talent and agility acrobatics. The gymnastic moves
The specialised art of jumping, tumbling, and balancing, requiring agility and skilful control of the body. The word derives from the Greek akrobatos, which might be translated ‘walking on tiptoe’, but which literally means ‘to go to the highest point’ ( akros : highest ; batos, from the verb for ‘to go’ ). While the etymology is Greek, the performing art of acrobatics has roots in ancient Chinese culture, where it emerged in tribal rituals related to daily activities. Work, intertribal relations, and non secular sacrifices all had their own corresponding acrobatic movements as the art developed alongside music, song, and dance. Acrobatics has maintained its status as a spectacular bodily art ; complex gymnastic feats are now frequently performed with apparatus such as balls, unicycles, trampolines, tightropes, and trapezes.
Acrobatics
Art of jumping, tumbling, and balancing. The art is of traditional origin ; acrobats performed jumps, somersaults, and vaults at Egyptian and Greek events. Acrobatic feats were featured in thecommedia dell’arte theatre in Europe and in jingxi (’Peking opera’ ) in China. The later use of apparatuses such as poles, tightropes, and flying trapezes made acrobatics a major attraction incircus performances. Its popularity increased in the 20 th century with such performers as the Flying Wallendas ( see Karl Wallenda ) .
Traditionally, acrobatic abilities were kept within families and passed from parents to youngsters. This is still true particularly among family circus groups nowadays. However, most acrobats are now taught by larger scale education systems, as circuses are now made from many more executives than they used to be. Many colleges specializing in acrobatics art are providing a recurring resource of acrobatic artists. A few of these schools are independently operated, and some are supported and associated to circuses.

McLintock (1963) (Sp) $4.92 John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara were born to star in “The Taming of the Shrew,” and this is the closest they ever got. Wayne plays a cattle baron whose estranged wife (O’Hara) wants a divorce. The film is basically one long, funny brawl between them, ending with a mud pit melee and Wayne publicly spanking O’Hara, which doesn’t look quite so politically correct anymore. This is no great shakes–direc… |
