BE POSITIVE seems to be one of the main messages being shouted at us from all the people trying to sell us business opportunities nowadays but I often wonder if the shouters really know what they are asking.
I believe that Being Positive means exactly what it says, so “being positive is a state of Being”. Being positive means to me that I am surrounded with, and full of positive energy and I do not allow negative energy to “change my polarity”. I am meant to be positive!
So, if I AM positive then all my thoughts and all my actions, all my motives, all my dreams and aspirations have to follow suit and be positive. It means that I won’t be able to think positively about my business then kick the dog, ignore the kids, rip off a customer or anything that comes out of negative energy.
I AM positive; I AM filled with positive energy. I AM, as Wayne Dyer puts it “connected to the Source” while Eckhart Tolle says “I AM in Presence” and religious people say “I AM one with God.” Others may say “I AM connected to the Universal Intelligence or to the Spirit of the Universe. Whatever words are used it seems to me to mean that I am in a positive place.
Remember the Law of Attraction that “The Secret”, “The Power of Intention” and many other well known books tell us about?
Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? I do, absolutely, and the Law of Attraction tells me that I will attract that which I give out so if I AM positive I can only receive more positive energy into my life. I will attract nothing negative.
I said this would be my life if I could be 100% positive and though not impossible it is difficult to maintain. Not because I am a bad or defective person but because I have lived so much of my life surrounded by negative energy. My childhood, just after the Second World War, had a lot of negative vibes attached to it. That early conditioning stayed with me for the best part of my life until I found out that I could let go of all these basic beliefs and preconceived ideas.
When I find I am telling myself that I MUST do this, that or the other I try to ask myself “Who says I must do this?” Do you know who it is every time?… It’s me, or my ego, working from old, mostly useless beliefs.
I ry to be grateful for everything in my life, especially myself. That may seem selfish but if you think about it you’ll see that it’s the only way I can BE. I know that wealth has little, if anything to do with what I have, what I own or how much I have in the bank. It’s to do with how accepting, how grateful I am for what I do have, it’s about how little I want rather than how much I have.
I’m not saying that I’m not trying to improve my living standards or increase my bank balance but, while I’m doing that I am going to be grateful for what I have and to never lose touch with where I am NOW.
It’s good for me to remember that the Law of Attraction doesn’t know the difference between what I think I want and what I really want. Remember the old adage: “Be careful what you wish for”.
I worked at sea for many years, supporting the offshore oil and gas industries. I would be away from home for up to 3 months and would work a 12 hour shift every day. Life was very repetitive, the same tasks with the same people day after day so maintaining sanity and self-motivation was of paramount importance-
I could go for days, maybe a couple of weeks and all would be fine, I would be reasonably happy and contented. Then I would get up one morning and find that, although nothing at all had changed – same ship, same people, same tasks, same weather, and same food – it was all “bad” that morning, nothing suited me, I couldn’t stand the people, the food was awful, it was too hot/cold/wet/dry. Nothing was right anymore though nothing had changed.
Something had changed, of course. My attitude had changed and I had decided that I was going to be negative on that day. You know what, that day, and there were actually lots of them, would go completely to pot.
This could last for days, weeks and I often finished up very close to depression and certainly somewhat insane. Then I learned a “Magic Trick”, I learned that if, as soon as I realised I was in a negative place, I could be grateful the day would turn around and all would be well.
It is so simple and you know what? It works every single time. Sometimes I could do it in a few minutes and other times it might take a couple of hours but it ALWAYS works.
Living gratefully has to put me into a positive place!

Gardens in the Spirit of Place $9.48 “Consult the genius of the place in all,” Alexander Pope famously wrote, advocating gardens that are in harmony with the landscape rather than imposed upon it.
