Torn Apart by Diony George is an honest and riveting true story about how pornography addiction can devastate and destroy the very threads of a marriage and family.
Although the author gives all those involved different names, she says right from the first part of her preface that this is her story.
Unbeknownst to her-she marries a man right after her 18th birthday and discovers a few years and two children later that he is addicted to pornography. There are little oddities that reared their heads during this time, but none that were blatant. Her 4-year-old drawing pictures of nude women and then scribbling over them and throwing them out. Advertisements and offers in the mail for adult toys, etc…
Because she and her husband were deeply devoted to their church, after the first discovery they work hard at putting their marriage back together. They go on to have 2 more children. Then she finds out his need for pornography and other women never stopped and his lies became more elaborate to cover up his problem.
She gathers all her courage and divorces her husband. Soon after she goes on-line and meets someone who has also been deeply hurt by a former spouse who was anything but what she portrayed herself to be-he has two children.
With miles between them (Diony-Alyson in the book-in Alaska and “Andrew” in Salt Lake City), it takes them a while to meet in person. When they do, they realize that despite their common hurt and fears, that they are true soul mates. They fall in love and marry. They combine their families successfully-all 6 kids and the newly formed couple.
Not long after their marriage, Diony-Alyson’s ex-husband dies in a freak work-related accident. The new couple also has a baby of their own.
Torn Apart is a story of one very young woman’s strength, growth, love for her children, herself, her new relationship and God. It is also a teaching guide for the innocent about how an addiction to pornography can ruin a marriage from the inside out. And important lesson for our emotional times.
It took Diony George a lot of courage to put her feelings down on paper.
