In his westerns John Wayne normally carried a Colt Singl Action Army in .45 Long Colt, It was about the most powerful pistol of the period. Just realize that he was a big man. The level action rifles he used in westerns looked like toys when shot them.
But all in all its not the gun, its the person behind it.
I won’t dis Clint Eastwood as I like his movies as well, but in westerns he also use the same pistol as John Wayne did.
