What is your opinion on Sufjan Stevens song about John Wayne Gacy?
It does contain an element of sorrow for the little boy who had a hard life, but I don’t see him excusing Gacy’s crimes, merely exploring some explanations and mourning a life given up to evil.
{His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne’s T-shirts
When the swingset hit his head}
And the climax of the song; doesn’t it really mean “There but for the grace of God go I”?
{Look beneath the floorboards
For the secrets I have hid}
that song is so beautifully tragic. sufjan is just explaining him without judgement or opinion. i dont know what the last lines mean, maybe that everyone has their problems/faults/secrets
