john wayne belt buckle
Why does john Wayne where the same belt buckle in all of his movies?

Why does john Wayne (western film actor) always where that one belt buckle? I am curious… apparently it has something to do with a river?

Howard Hawks had a bunch of belt buckles made for the main people in his classic “Red River,” with the “D” brand from the movie, the initials of the person he gave it to, and the year (1946). Hawks & Wayne were good friends, and at some point they swapped buckles, with Hawks wearing the “JW” buckle and Wayne wearing the “HWH” buckle.

Wayne wore this buckle in a number of his movies for sentimental reasons, and wore it regularly off-screen.
